Job summary

Lorien is seeking a Java Developer in London to join the Back Office Change function on a 12-month contract. The role focuses on an AWS cloud migration and modernising a range of middle and back-office systems, including reference data and FIS platforms.

London (Hybrid - 3 days in office) | Contract - 12 months | Up to £700/day (Inside IR35)

A well-established investment bank in the City is looking for a Java Developer to join its Back Office Change function, working on an AWS Cloud migration.

You will also be supporting and modernising a range of middle and back-office systems, including reference data and FIS platforms. You'll be working closely with database and reporting teams, and collaborating downstream with Front Office on changes, challenges and projects. The team is midway through a cloud migration programme — bringing systems up to current standards and moving on-prem workloads into AWS, with a real focus on smart modernisation rather than a like-for-like lift. Candidates must be expert Java Developers with real-world cloud migration experience with AWS.

What We're Looking For

• Strong understanding of cloud concepts, with hands-on AWS experience
• Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and relational database/SQL experience
• Experience working in CI/CD environments with source control (Git)
• Strong communication skills — confident engaging directly with business stakeholders
• Comfortable working across a varied, legacy tech landscape of differing ages and complexity
• Financial Services experience is essential
• Experience with AI development
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to work across complex application landscapes and quickly understand existing systems
• Previous involvement in cloud migration programmes
• Experience with settlements, reference data or post-trade systems
• Understanding of the trade lifecycle and associated operational processes
• Knowledge of EMS, ActiveMQ or similar messaging technologies
• Terraform or Infrastructure as Code experience
