Job summary

Oliver Bernard is seeking two experienced Senior Java Developers to join a major retail banking transformation programme in London. You will work on large-scale payments and accounts platform, designing and building high-volume, cloud-native systems.

You'll create Java-based microservices, leverage AWS and Kafka, and collaborate with product owners, architects and engineering teams to deliver robust banking solutions in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Strong Java development experience (Java 17/21) in enterprise environments.
• Retail banking or financial services experience.
• Hands-on with payments, accounts, or transaction processing systems.
• Experience building microservices architectures.
• Proficiency with AWS cloud.
• Experience with Kafka.
• Knowledge of high-performance, high-throughput systems.
• Understanding distributed/event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Spring Boot / Spring ecosystem.
• Knowledge of payment rails or banking integrations.
• Experience in regulated financial environments.

Location: Canary Wharf, London – 3 days onsite / 2 days WFH

We are currently seeking 2 experienced Senior Java Developers to join a major retail banking transformation programme within a leading financial services organisation. You will be working on a large-scale payments and accounts platform, helping modernise critical banking systems that support high-volume customer transactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance high-volume transactional banking systems supporting accounts and payments.
• Build scalable Java-based microservices deployed to cloud infrastructure.
• Work closely with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to deliver robust banking solutions.
• Develop event-driven services using Kafka for payment and transaction processing.
• Ensure systems meet high availability, security, and regulatory standards required in financial services.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical best practices across the engineering team.

Required Experience

• Strong Java development experience (Java 17/21) in enterprise environments.
• Proven experience working in retail banking or financial services.
