Job summary

Gravitas Recruitment Group (Global) Ltd is recruiting for a back-office Java services development role in London. The job focuses on development, maintenance and enhancement of services supporting the Back Office at our Financial Services client, with 3 days per week on site in City of London.

The team interacts with IT and business stakeholders; cloud-first approaches are promoted as part of a broader AWS migration.

Qualifications

• Substantial enterprise Java development experience in a complex, business-critical environment.
• Strong core Java, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms and clean-code practices.
• Hands-on experience building backend services, RESTful APIs and integration components, ideally using Spring/Spring Boot and related enterprise Java frameworks.
• Strong SQL and relational database skills, including investigation, reconciliation, performance-aware query writing and issue resolution.
• Experience with automated testing, including unit, integration and regression testing using common Java testing tools.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, build tools and delivery tooling such as Git, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins.
• AWS or cloud migration experience, including cloud-ready design, containerisation, Docker, IaC concepts and operational resilience.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work across code, data, logs and processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence across business and tech teams.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum or iterative delivery environments with Jira.
• Self-starter with ownership and delivery focus for critical services.
• Experience in investment banking or related regulatory domains.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/Aurora, JPA/Hibernate, Spring Security, messaging and observability tooling.
• Experience supporting cloud migration, AWS ECS, RDS, Lambda, Terraform, Docker.
• Awareness of AI-enabled development practices.

This is a Development role in the creation, maintenance and enhancement of services that support the Back Office at our Financial Services & Banking client in London. STRONG STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL!

DURATION : 12 MONTHS

LOCATION : 3 DAYS PER WEEK ON SITE CITY OF LONDON

The role is in the Back Office Java Services team which is responsible for a range of applications across business domains and user groups in the bank. The role involves routine interaction with the relevant business teams to understand their requirements and to design and implement solutions to service their needs and support the overall business process.

The responsibilities include:

• Pro-actively communicating with both IT and business stakeholders across a range of seniority, and preparedness to undertake some business analysis of issues and requirements. THEREFORE EXCELLENT STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT / COMMUNICATION SKILLS & DOCUMENTATION WRITING SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL.
• The team provides key services supporting Post Trade functions within: Finance, Operations, Product Control, Regulatory Reporting, Reference Data, Pricing, Management Reporting and Compliance amongst others. The team is responsible for several strategic systems that contribute to the Bank’s overall technical architecture.
• The firm is in the middle of a transition programme to cloud, with existing systems and services being migrated onto AWS as part of a larger shift towards a cloud-first model. The role will consider and champion cloud-first solutions for new business and technology demands.
• Deliver software solutions against prioritised business and regulatory demands, and within mandated timelines
• Develop and maintain high-quality, readable, and maintainable code adhering to industry best practices and coding standards, with comprehensive unit, integration, and regression testing to minimise defects and ensure the software remains scalable and easy to enhance over time
• Engagement with technology and business management for Technology Change, including use of the Back Office Front Door Process to ensure documented business requirements inform efficient Technology delivery
• Independently execute projects with a well-defined technical and business strategy, all the way through to showing positive business outcomes (reliable, in production, monitored, with adoption etc.), not claiming victory at code completion
• Ensure the what, why and how of projects and deliverables from the team are documented, including dependencies and technical complexities at the right level for the audience, and challenge change requestors where there is any ambiguity or clarification is required
• Ensure engineering stack and process knowledge is documented, discoverable and reviewed periodically to maintain accuracy and reduce key person dependencies
• Provide support for the business as required, aligning with Technology priorities and ensuring optimum application and service availability and resiliency
