Job summary

Hunter Bond is seeking experienced Senior Java Engineers to join a leading technology organisation operating across financial services and energy trading. This hands-on role focuses on complex, bespoke solutions for financial markets clients, spanning greenfield and brownfield development in settlements/post-trade environments.

You will collaborate with veteran engineers, own technical challenges from investigation to delivery, and work in on-prem setups with Azure/cloud exposure.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years' commercial software development experience.
• Strong Spring / Spring Boot experience.
• Experience with complex greenfield and/or brownfield systems.
• Experience in financial services, financial markets, trading or energy trading.
• Hands-on development; not a pure architecture role.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance server-side Java/JVM applications using Java as the primary back-end tech.
• Build robust services with Spring and Spring Boot.
• Contribute across greenfield and brownfield projects in financial services/trading environments.
• Develop solutions supporting settlement and post-trade workflows, especially equities.
• Work with Kubernetes, event-driven architecture and cloud infra; mostly on-prem with Azure/cloud exposure.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Own technical challenges from investigation to delivery.
• Navigate ambiguity and changing requirements in a fast-moving setting.

Our client are a leading technology organisation working across financial services and energy trading is looking for experienced Senior Java Engineers to join its engineering teams.

This is a hands‑on software engineering opportunity, working on complex, bespoke solutions for

financial markets clients. You’ll be involved across both greenfield and brownfield development,

working closely with experienced engineering teams to solve challenging technical and business

problems.

The role sits within a Settlements / Post-Trade environment, with additional exposure to digital

assets and blockchain technology. Outside R35 contract which is extendable to 12 months! Up to £700 Day rate as well!

• Develop and enhance server‑side Java/JVM applications, with Java as the primary back‑end technology.


• Build robust services using Spring and Spring Boot.


• Work across greenfield and brownfield projects within financial services, trading and post‑trade environments.


• Develop solutions supporting settlement and post‑trade workflows, particularly within equities.


• Work with Kubernetes, event‑driven architecture and cloud infrastructure, primarily within on‑premise environments with some Azure/cloud exposure.


• Collaborate closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to understand complex requirements and deliver effective solutions.


• Take ownership of technical challenges from initial investigation through to implementation and delivery.


• Work comfortably with ambiguity, incomplete information and changing requirements in a fast‑moving environment.


• Polyglot development experience is welcome where appropriate, although strong Java expertise is essential.
