Job summary

Citi is seeking an experienced software engineer in Belfast to architect and lead regulatory reporting pipelines using Java and Spring Boot. You will guide a team, onboard new regulations, and implement AI-driven automation while ensuring scalable, reliable data processing across big data stacks.

The role emphasizes real-time streaming with Kafka, Spark-based batch processing, and close collaboration with Compliance to translate complex rules into robust software solutions.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on software engineering experience in enterprise-scale environments.
• Deep knowledge of Java/J2EE platform and Core Java (Java 8+) including memory management and performance tuning.
• Extensive experience building microservices and RESTful APIs with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data and Spring Security.
• Strong experience with Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Hive; ability to optimize Spark jobs.
• Experience engineering event-driven systems with Apache Kafka.
• Proficiency in SQL, database design, indexing, and query optimization; NoSQL experience with MongoDB.
• Proficient with Git/Bitbucket, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, foster collaboration, review code and promote technical excellence.
• Drive onboarding of new regulatory requirements and ensure platform keeps up with global standards.
• Apply AI/ML concepts to automate and classify data within regulatory pipelines.
• Write clean, robust, testable Java code and design scalable microservices.
• Build and optimize data integration layers for high-throughput regulatory reporting.
• Develop real-time streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka and maintain data ingestion processes.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Compliance to translate regulatory rules into technical specs.
• Communicate progress and risks to technology leadership and stakeholders.
