Job summary

Nomura is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer - Vice President in London to lead end-to-end platform initiatives within Global Markets IT, Equities IT, and Prime Brokerage initiatives. The role combines hands-on coding with strategic technical leadership, driving testing-first practices and incident management across complex systems.

You will mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver robust solutions in a hybrid London environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on software development experience in Java, with a strong track record of delivering complex systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in automated testing methodologies, including embedding test automation and TDD into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong technical background across database, messaging/queueing, cloud and observability technologies.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers, even without formal line management.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery of complex platform initiatives, remaining hands-on with coding and design.
• Set technical direction and engineering standards, mentoring junior and mid-level engineers across the team.
• Champion a test-first culture, ensuring automated testing at scale is built into the pipeline.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling and delivery methodology across the platform.
• Lead engagement with business analysts, business stakeholders and production support to shape robust solutions.
• Take ownership of production issues and major incidents, actively participating in incident calls when required.
• Proactively identify, escalate and manage technical and delivery risks across the platform.
