Job summary

Nomura is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer - Vice President in London to lead end-to-end platform initiatives within Global Markets IT, Equities IT, and Prime Brokerage initiatives. The role combines hands-on coding with strategic technical leadership, driving testing-first practices and incident management across complex systems.

You will mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver robust solutions in a hybrid London environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on software development experience in Java, with a strong track record of delivering complex systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in automated testing methodologies, including embedding test automation and TDD into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong technical background across database, messaging/queueing, cloud and observability technologies.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers, even without formal line management.

This role sits within Global Markets IT (GMIT), specifically the Equities IT function supporting the Prime business. The team builds and runs platforms underpinning Nomura's global Prime Brokerage offering, spanning both Cash Prime Brokerage (CPB) and Synthetic Prime Brokerage (SPB). Nomura is making significant strategic investment in its Prime Brokerage franchise, with multi-million dollar technology investment driving the expansion of CPB and SPB capabilities globally. Joining this team means contributing directly to that growth agenda, working on systems that are central to the firm's Prime strategy.

Role Description:

• Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling and delivery methodology across the platform.

• Take ownership of production issues and major incidents, actively participating in incident calls when required.
• Proactively identify, escalation and manage technical and delivery risks across the platform.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

• Extensive hands-on software development experience in Java, with a strong track record of delivering complex systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in automated testing methodologies, including embedding test automation and TDD practices into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong technical background across database, messaging/queueing, cloud and observability technologies, with the ability to ramp up quickly on specific tools.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers, without necessarily holding formal line management responsibility.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, engaging confidently with business analysts, business stakeholders and senior partners.
• Experience taking ownership of production issues and major incidents, including active participation in incident calls.
• Track record of driving continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling and delivery methodology.
• Experience within financial services or Prime Brokerage is beneficial but not essential.
