Job summary

Tesco in London is seeking an Engineering Enablement Engineer to drive core Java development and developer experience as part of the Quote Modernisation programme. You will build shared components, improve CI/CD, and ensure fast feedback loops for the engineering teams.

You will mentor peers, contribute to internal tooling, and help migrate to managed cloud services while delivering scalable, well-tested code in a modern JVM ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Java 8+ and JVM internals.
• Hands-on cloud experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
• Experience owning or improving CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain shared components underpinning Quote Modernisation (Micronaut template, logging/metrics libraries, feature flags).
• Drive adoption across engineering teams and meet real development needs.
• Automate quality gates (code coverage, static analysis, performance, security).
• Support migration from self-managed infra to managed cloud services.
• Contribute to canary release infrastructure and feature flagging capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and improve developer experience; write useful docs and runbooks.
