Vertus Partners in London is seeking a hands-on Java Software Engineer to own design and delivery of distributed backend services in a banking environment. You will work on microservices, cloud deployments (AWS), and architecture decisions while writing production-grade Java and keeping systems scalable, resilient, and observable.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Java development in production environments.
• Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems and software design principles.
• Experience building applications in cloud environments.
• Good working knowledge of relational databases.
• Understanding production engineering concerns such as performance, resilience, automation and scalability.
• Confidence contributing to technical direction and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build resilient backend services using modern Java technologies.
• Take technical ownership of solutions from design through to production.
• Work on distributed, service-based architectures with focus on scalability and availability.
• Help engineering teams make sensible design choices balancing technical quality with business requirements.
• Improve automation across build, test and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into pragmatic solutions.
• Progressing to a future Technical Lead.
