Job summary

Salt Search is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design, develop and maintain cloud-native Java microservices on AWS, with a focus on security and observability. You will work closely with platform engineers, QA and product teams in a hybrid setup.

This contract role in the travel sector spans 3–6 months, offering £550-£700 daily rate inside IR35, with start ASAP. Hybrid: 1–2 days on-site in Sussex.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong OOP and FP concepts, Java (v8–v24).
• Experience with AWS services and microservices patterns.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and testing.
• Security best practices, OAuth2/JWT and data stores.

Senior Java Developer (AWS, Microservices) - Travel - Sussex

Daily rate: £550 - £700 (inside IR35)

My new client is looking for a Senior Java Developer (AWS, Microservices) to join the team on a contract basis. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and cloud-native Java microservices, primarily hosted on AWS, integrating with both internal and third-party systems

Collaborating closely with other technical leads, platform engineers, QA, and product teams, you will follow best practices in software design, observability, security, and DevOps principles. You will also contribute to L3 support activities, ensuring the stability and reliability of production systems.

This role demands a proactive, curious mindset, keeping them at the forefront of digital innovation.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles and familiarity with Functional Programming
• Must be proficient in Java (v8 - v24) and DI frameworks
• Software design patterns.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and event-driven patterns.
• Familiarity with other JVM languages
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, ECS, S3, etc.).
• Experience developing RESTful APIs
• Exposure to SOAP and GraphQL services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
• Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and automation testing.
• Awareness of security best practices, OAuth2/JWT authentication.
• Awareness of SQL & NoSQL (Opensearch)
• Familiarity with travel industry concepts/GDSes
