Boeing Defence UK is developing state-of-the-art training equipment to support the UK MoD Defence Operational Training Capability (DOTC).

We are looking for a hands-on Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to support the day-to-day IT operations and maintenance of the Gladiator Core Systems Infrastructure and Services (GCSS).

The role will be based in the new, custom-built facility at RAF Waddington, near Lincoln.

Team: The local infrastructure team comprises 4 members managing system sustainment and change across technologies like Windows Server, RedHat Linux, VMWare. The work is varied with a focus on customer delivery. You will work within a small local team and a wider BDUK team of SMEs to deliver services to the MoD.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all activity related to IT Infrastructure and front-end IT services, liaising with the programme manager to plan schedules minimizing operational disruption.
  • Manage team activities related to BAU IT Infrastructure Administration: troubleshoot server, network, and end-user compute issues; maintain system security; administer user access controls; monitor systems; plan capacity, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Lead, coordinate, and prioritize the IT admin team’s activities concerning incident, change, release, and configuration management of IT infrastructure and end-user services.
  • Lead a small IT Admin team with hands-on troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, reconfiguration, and deployment of IT infrastructure and services.
  • Employ strict change control and release governance to ensure configuration alignment across all environments supporting live services.
  • Maintain system and operating documentation for safe operation of IT services.
  • Respond to vulnerability assessments, coordinate remediation activities like patching, and uphold security standards.
  • Manage IT infrastructure reporting (performance and availability) ensuring KPI adherence.
  • Ensure support coverage, including out-of-hours activities like patching and software releases.
  • Assess team capabilities and develop training plans to enhance technical skills.

Occasional work outside standard hours may be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years managing highly available IT infrastructure and end-user computing
  • Ability to obtain UK security clearance (DV)
  • Excellent English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco CCNA
  • VMware Certified Professional
  • RedHat Certified System Administrator
  • Microsoft MCSE

The ideal candidate has extensive system administration and design experience, can adapt in a fast-paced environment, and understands system security. Experience with UK government and classified networks is highly desirable.
