Job description

Run For The Hills is on the hunt for a senior interior designer to join its team in London.

We are a super creative, award-winning design studio, fashioning exciting and unique commercial, hospitality (F&B) and residential design projects. We get involved in almost every aspect of designing the spaces we create, from designing al fresco spaces to the design of every element of the interiors, from finishes to FF&E, creation of original art and lots of bespoke lighting and joinery design. We also have a dedicated graphic design team and a lot of our projects are commercial hospitality projects, with the branding team devising the creative branding, visual identity, website and in-venue graphics, creating a seamless concept across brand and interiors. So, this is a great opportunity to be part of a truly multi-disciplinary design team.

You will work on exciting UK and international projects, working alongside the creative directors and managing director – running the design, client handling and project management of multiple commercial and residential interior projects day-to-day.

In terms of your track record, you’ll need to have fantastic design skills, and bags of experience running jobs already. You need to be hyper-organised and able to juggle lots of projects and deliver output to deadlines.

On a personality front, we love positive, entrepreneurial, can-do people.

We are open to applications from associate level also.

Key duties:
  • to act as lead designer under the creative director across all studio output
  • conceptualising and delivering amazing designs, which look and work brilliantly for clients
  • leading and inspiring the rest of the team, problem-solving and mentoring
  • ensuring design output meets the brief, on time, within budget, agreed scope and rounds
  • tracking and managing project success
  • involvement in new business and proposals alongside the Directors
  • once a project is won; setting up, planning and scheduling SOW and timings plans
  • overseeing the creation of Drawing Issue Lists and design project delivery strategy
  • creating design analysis and return briefs and concept designs
  • developed design schemes, technical design packs, specs and tender documentation
  • setting and tracking design to-dos and deadlines for the team
  • training others in creativity, efficiency, project coordination + client handling
  • checking and correcting the work of more junior team members
  • FF&E / finishes sourcing and specification, managing budgets, estimates and reconciliations
Skills and experience needed:
  • a really exciting design portfolio across hospitality and residential design
  • highly creative and technically strong
  • a curious mind, wanting to push the boundaries of design and tech
  • experience working in a client-facing capacity at a senior level
  • strong understanding of project set-up, procedures, processes, programmes, budgets and contractual arrangements
  • evidence of running large-scale projects for a minimum of four-five years
  • job-leading experience is essential
  • evidence of running multiple projects and working to tight deadlines
  • excellent organisation skills and proven ability to work well under pressure
  • experience of managing and inspiring more junior team designers
  • ability to prioritise and deliver projects within agreed budgets and timescales
  • excellent technical skills with a beady eye for detail
  • CAD: strong proficiency in Vectorworks
  • excellent construction and ’on site’ knowledge and experience
  • experience briefing the wider consultant team – planning, building control, CDM
  • experience leading efficient site and internal meetings
  • proven experience working with bespoke fabricators and specialist suppliers
  • negotiating skills with suppliers to secure best price, terms and value for clients
  • excellent skills with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, sketching/SketchUp (a bonus)
  • hyper organised and able to deliver well against multiple deadlines
  • above average organisation skills, drive and a structured approach to delivery – we don’t want to be chasing or reminding about tasks and priorities
  • leading the planning and resourcing of your own projects, so deadlines are met and rounds of revisions are minimised
  • taking charge of your own project portfolio, with the scope to lead independently – design excellence, profitability and smooth project delivery
  • owning the project timetable and the design budget, coordinating internal and external consultants and monitoring resources across your projects
  • the ability to strictly manage project budgets and work to tight deadlines
  • great communication skills and staying ahead of to-do lists
