Job summary

DWP Digital in the United Kingdom is seeking an outstanding Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our community of tech experts to support the deployment and operation of cloud hosted products and services.

You'll help migrate and modernise environments, automate tasks, improve reliability and performance, and work across hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle in a flexible hybrid model. We offer up to £73,305 with a 28.97% employer pension contribution and a strong work‑life balance.

Qualifications

  • Experience enabling engineering teams to apply standards and policies across disciplines.
  • Strong GitLab experience, including CI/CD pipelines development and maintenance.
  • IaC with Terraform and CaC with Ansible; CloudFormation desirable.
  • Administer Linux (RHEL/Debian) in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and Agile delivery methods.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop engineering teams.

We are looking for an outstanding Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital, to support the implementation and operation of Cloud hosted products and services.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
  • Experience enabling engineering teams to adopt and apply standards, policies and technical frameworks that promote consistency, compliance and engineering excellence across multiple disciplines.
  • Significant experience of using and administering source code management systems such as GitLab, including the development, maintenance and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Significant experience of developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Configuration as Code (CaC) using Ansible. Experience of CloudFormation is desirable.
  • Significant experience of administering and supporting Linux operating systems, including RHEL and Debian, within enterprise scale environments.
  • Significant experience of working within Service and Delivery Management frameworks, including ITIL practices such as Incident, Problem and Change Management, alongside Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Significant experience of leading, coaching and developing engineers and technical teams, providing technical direction, building capability, and driving the adoption of engineering standards and best practices to deliver high quality outcomes.
You and your role

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll help build and support the cloud platforms that keep critical services running. You'll work with teams across the organisation to migrate and modernise their Ansible and GitLab environments, automate repetitive tasks, improve reliability and performance, and solve complex technical challenges before they impact users.

It's a role where you'll shape the future of our cloud services while helping others develop their skills along the way.

Location:

You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle, whichever is more convenient for you.

Hybrid Working:

We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay:

We offer competitive pay of up to £73,205

Pension:

You’ll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.

Holidays:

A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexitime. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
