Job summary

DWP Digital is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to help build and operate cloud platforms that keep essential services running across the UK government. You will migrate and modernise Ansible and GitLab environments, automate repetitive tasks, and drive reliability and performance improvements.

You will lead and coach engineers, shape engineering standards and best practices, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality outcomes in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Experience enabling engineering teams to apply standards and practices across disciplines.
• Experience developing IaC using Terraform and CaC using Ansible; CloudFormation desirable.
• Experience administering Linux (RHEL/Debian) in enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL practices and Agile delivery methodologies.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer Pay up to £73,305 plus 28.97% employer pension contributions, hybrid working, flexible hours, and great work life balance.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

• Experience enabling engineering teams to adopt and apply standards, policies and technical frameworks that promote consistency, compliance and engineering excellence across multiple disciplines.
• Significant experience of using and administering source code management systems such as GitLab, including the development, maintenance and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines.
• Significant experience of developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Configuration as Code (CaC) using Ansible. Experience of CloudFormation is desirable.
• Significant experience of administering and supporting Linux operating systems, including RHEL and Debian, within enterprise scale environments.
• Significant experience of working within Service and Delivery Management frameworks, including ITIL practices such as Incident, Problem and Change Management, alongside Agile delivery methodologies.
• Significant experience of leading, coaching and developing engineers and technical teams, providing technical direction, building capability, and driving the adoption of engineering standards and best practices to deliver high quality outcomes.

You'll work with teams across the organisation to migrate and modernise their Ansible and GitLab environments, automate repetitive tasks, improve reliability and performance, and solve complex technical challenges before they impact users.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £73,205

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.
