Job summary

DWP Digital is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement and support identity and access management at scale in the UK’s largest government digital environment. You will lead hybrid identity initiatives using Microsoft Entra ID, Entra Connect, and related security technologies.

You will collaborate with Security, DevOps and Architecture teams to strengthen Zero Trust, automate identity processes, and improve privileged access management across Azure, AWS and on‑premises

Qualifications

• Experience delivering IAM services in a large enterprise.
• Strong knowledge of IGA, JML lifecycle, access provisioning and auditing.
• Hands-on design/implementation of SSO, MFA, CA and federation.
• Experience with PAM/PIM and RBAC in enterprise environments.
• Ability to lead on Zero Trust identity architectures and drive governance.

What skills, knowledge and significant experience will you need?

• Lead Criteria: Demonstrable expertise in Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including the design, implementation, support and optimisation of enterprise-scale identity and access management services with strong experience of hybrid identity solutions using Microsoft Entra Connect
• Significant experience delivering Identity and Access Management (IAM) services within a large, complex enterprise environment, working effectively across internal teams, multiple suppliers and third‑party service providers.
• Strong experience of Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) and Joiner-Mover-Leaver (JML) lifecycle management, including access provisioning, role management, automation, auditing and compliance controls.
• Practical experience designing and implementing modern authentication and authorisation solutions, including Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access, federation, and application integration with Microsoft Entra ID.
• Proven experience implementing and operating Privileged Access Management (PAM) and Privileged Identity Management (PIM) solutions, including privileged account governance, Role‑Based Access Control (RBAC), Just‑in‑Time (JIT) access, and technologies such as Microsoft Entra PIM or CyberArk.
• Experience applying Zero Trust principles to identity architectures, including least‑privilege access, identity protection, privileged access controls and threat mitigation, with the ability to provide technical leadership and influence stakeholders at all levels.

You'll start your day helping protect the identities and access of millions of users across one of the UK's largest IT environments. One moment you're working with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, the next you're collaborating with Security, DevOps and Architecture teams to strengthen Zero Trust security, automate identity processes and improve privileged access management.

This is a role where you'll solve complex technical challenges, influence the future direction of identity services and play a key part in delivering secure, resilient systems that people rely on every day. Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool or Manchester, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £73,205

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi‑time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
