Job summary

DWP Digital is recruiting a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our team and lead the design, deployment and optimization of enterprise infrastructure across hybrid environments. You will work across Windows, Linux, cloud platforms and containerised systems, driving engineering best practices and resilience.

You will mentor engineers, handle live incidents, and collaborate with service owners, architects and suppliers to shape modern infrastructure services.

Qualifications

• Evidence a strong track record in designing and delivering infrastructure services across a hybrid server estate.
• Experience in Windows Server, Unix/Linux distributions and containerised platforms.
• Significant experience providing specialist technical support to projects meeting non‑functional requirements.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers to deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to use multiple scripting languages across OS and IaC deployment techniques.

What skills, knowledge and significant experience will you need?

Evidence a strong track record in designing and delivering infrastructure services and solutions, working within a hybrid server estate including multiple Operating Systems such as Microsoft Windows Server, multiple Unix or Linux distributions and containerised platforms, to meet strategic plans and roadmaps.

Demonstrate significant experience in providing specialist technical support and assistance to projects ensuring definition and delivery of requisite non‑functional requirements to architectural and roadmap developments.

Exhibit significant experience managing, supporting and mentoring the development of team members and consumers alike to successfully deliver high quality outcomes that meet the customers' needs and provides value for money.

Be able to show significant demonstrable experience of using multiple scripting languages across different operating systems this must include agent deployment by Infrastructure as Code techniques.

Demonstrate significant experience of effectively communicating at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and suppliers.

Proven significant experience of designing, implementing and managing a hybrid On Premise and Public Cloud agent based collection architecture including agent rollout to multiple technologies including knowledge of Infrastructure as Code deployment techniques to the Departments platforms.

You and your role You'll lead the design, deployment and improvement of enterprise monitoring and asset management solutions across hybrid environments, working with Windows, Linux, cloud platforms, containers, AKS and EKS. You'll be a technical leader, driving engineering best practice, supporting cloud‑hosted infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code, and ensuring our platforms remain secure, resilient and high performing.

Working closely with engineers, service owners and stakeholders, you'll help shape modern infrastructure services, solve complex technical challenges and act as the senior escalation point for live incidents.

You'll also play a key role in mentoring engineers, growing capability across the team and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £73,205 Pension: You’ll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of
28.97%, worth over £16,000 per year.
