Job summary

Cloud People in Teesside is recruiting for a projects engineer with strong networking underpinnings. You will deliver infrastructure and cloud projects, own the networking scope, and coordinate handovers to service delivery.

This hybrid role involves some client-site travel, evening/weekend work when schedules require it, and mentoring of less experienced consultants. Training and accreditations are encouraged and funded.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience delivering infrastructure projects with networking at the core.
• Solid routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs experience including vendor exposure.
• Windows Server installation and configuration.

Responsibilities

• Delivering infrastructure and cloud implementation projects from planning through to build, testing and handover.
• Owning the networking element of project delivery, including routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs.
• Configuring and migrating cloud services, including Microsoft 365 and Azure workloads.
• Deploying and upgrading virtual server environments, storage and backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Producing clear technical documentation and running structured handovers into service delivery.
• Scoping and planning projects, and supporting pre delivery technical assessment.
• Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to internal training.

Job description

£50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience

Teesside, hybrid. Office and home split on a rotating pattern (typically two days in one week, three the next). Some travel to client sites, plus evening and weekend work where project schedules require it.

Company & role

A well established managed IT services provider and Microsoft partner, delivering infrastructure, cloud and security projects to a broad commercial client base across the UK. The projects team sits apart from service desk and handles design, build and handover work end to end.

This is a replacement hire in the projects team, and it is a networking shaped gap. The wider team covers cloud, virtualisation and modern work well, but the networking capability needs rebuilding. You will spend roughly 80 percent of your time delivering implementation projects and the remaining 20 percent on scoping, planning, internal training and mentoring the less experienced consultants.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering infrastructure and cloud implementation projects for customers, from planning through to build, testing and handover
• Owning the networking element of project delivery, including routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs
• Configuring and migrating cloud services, including Microsoft 365 and Azure workloads
• Deploying and upgrading virtual server environments, storage and backup and disaster recovery solutions

Ideal Experience

• Demonstrable experience delivering infrastructure projects, not just supporting them. Service desk only backgrounds will not suit this level
• Solid networking capability covering routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs, with exposure to vendors such as Palo Alto, Sophos, FortiNet, Draytek, Juniper or Cisco
• Windows Server installation and configuration
• Comfortable working across multiple disciplines rather than a single specialism
• Willingness to travel and work outside core hours when project delivery requires it
• Full clean UK driving licence

Desirable, and the more the better:

• Microsoft 365 and Azure administration, including Conditional Access, Entra Connect, Exchange Online and hybrid, SharePoint, Teams and Intune
• Virtualisation with VMware vSphere or Hyper V, including replication and failover
• Storage and clustering, including SAN, iSCSI and cluster troubleshooting
• Security tooling across MDM, MFA, email filtering, next generation firewalls and endpoint protection
• RDS, RemoteApp or Citrix environments
• VoIP platforms such as FreePBX, Mitel, Gamma or Teams voice
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, JNCP, VCP or Microsoft equivalents

Worth saying clearly: this is not a role for a pure network engineer or network consultant. The networking is a must have, but it sits inside broader multi discipline infrastructure delivery.
