North20 Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design cooling infrastructure for hyperscale data centres. You will lead mechanical design across airside and waterside cooling, delivering efficient, reliable systems for mission-critical environments.

The role involves hydraulic calculations, CFD reviews, and collaboration with consultants and contractors, with exposure to cutting-edge data centre projects and long‑term career progression.

Qualifications

• Experience designing cooling infrastructure in mission-critical or hyperscale environments.
• Data centre mechanical design experience.
• Familiarity with evaporative and non-evaporative cooling systems.
• Experience with chilled water and hydronic systems.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modelling and analysis.
• Knowledge of CFD modelling and thermal management.
• Experience with building services mechanical design.
• Experience with data centre projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leading the design and technical development of airside and waterside cooling systems.
• Developing cooling strategies for hyperscale data centre environments.
• Carrying out hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing and system analysis.
• Reviewing CFD modelling, noise studies and climate assessments.
• Assessing redundancy strategies and SPOFs.
• Supporting value engineering initiatives to enhance efficiency and performance.
• Collaborating with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
• Reviewing engineering deliverables including drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
• Supporting design improvements across engineering, construction and operational teams.
