Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a senior Electrical Engineer to join our offshore transmission team, supporting HVDC projects across lifecycle stages. You will provide expert technical advice, review designs, and coordinate with client teams and subcontractors to mitigate risks.

The role offers opportunities to contribute to major electrical power infrastructure work, engage with professional bodies, and benefit from a flexible hybrid working arrangement across the UK.

Qualifications

• Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng or working towards).
• Demonstrable understanding of HVDC Station Engineering, Control & Protection and System Studies.
• Ability to coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices to identify and mitigate technical risks and ensure compliance.
• Interest in developing external and internal relationships and participating in professional bodies (e.g., CIGRE, IET).

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice for HVDC OEM design reviews.
• Witness HVDC OEM factory testing, on-site inspections, and commissioning of HVDC projects.
• Develop HVDC projects, including technology review/selection and bid preparation/review.
• Develop technical/functional specifications for HVDC converters.
• Design primary plant layouts for HVDC Converter stations.
• Design reviews of HVDC Control and Protection.
• Provide engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructure projects through lifecycle stages.
• Coordinate with client project teams and internal team disciplines.
• Provide OEM Support Services.
• Supervise site pre-commissioning and commissioning oversight.
• Conduct Due Diligence.
• Provide Technical expert services.
