Job summary

GE Vernova in Stafford is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to ensure HVDC converter valves are designed safely and reliably. You will define engineering standards, review critical decisions, mentor engineers, support testing, and influence HVDC technology globally.

This role acts as a technical authority, signing off electrical designs and guiding projects with high autonomy while maintaining the highest standards across the business.

Qualifications

• MANDATORY: Experience with HVDC and knowledge of valve converters.
• Significant HVDC/valve converter experience is required; others may be considered exceptionally.
• Electrical Engineering degree with strong electrical design and power distribution knowledge.
• Experience on very large-scale projects.
• Senior-level profile with extensive technical expertise.
• Responsible for signing off electrical designs.
• Requires substantial experience in Engineering/Technology & Interdisciplinary Engineering; Master’s level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conceptual or theoretical activities related to translating users' needs into the definition of a system, its architecture and design through an iterative process that results in an effective operational system and demands an interdisciplinary approach.
• Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
• Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
• Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
• Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
