Brief Description

The Senior HR Business Partner will be a trusted partner to the route's senior leadership, proactively addressing people-related needs to enhance performance. Responsibilities include leading talent and succession planning, employee relations, performance management, engagement, and EDI initiatives, while supporting HR projects aligned with business priorities. The role involves coaching leaders, developing the HR team, and promoting high standards of people management.

This role requires a strategic, solution-focused approach, leveraging commercial insight and resilience to address operational and strategic challenges, influencing at all levels to deliver business impact.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives, fostering high performance.
  2. Build strong relationships with senior leaders, advising and co-developing people initiatives.
  3. Lead change programmes and support HR solutions within the business area.
  4. Manage trade union relationships proactively.
  5. Encourage ownership of people management by line managers.
  6. Collaborate with Centres of Expertise and HR teams to improve service and influence strategy.
Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Strong business understanding and partnership experience with senior leaders.
  • Customer service orientation and achievement articulation.
  • Experience implementing HR solutions for high performance.
  • Ability to establish credibility quickly.
  • Coaching, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with talent development and retention.
  • HR knowledge with CIPD qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience managing change programmes like TUPE, re-design, redundancies.
  • Graduate calibre.
  • Experience in a unionised environment.

Desired:

  • Postgraduate HR qualification (e.g., MCIPD).
