Job summary

Essex County Council in Chelmsford is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist in Housing for a fixed-term contract or secondment up to 2 years. The role focuses on major adaptations to support safe discharge and housing needs for adults and children with life-changing conditions.

You’ll work with district councils and Health colleagues, mentoring others and ensuring CPD and HCPC requirements are met. Driving is essential for Essex-wide travel.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist and up-to-date professional registration.
• Significant experience in social care with understanding of Care Act, MHA, MCA, and related housing/regulation.
• Demonstrable experience delivering major adaptations.
• Experience mentoring staff and acting as a subject matter expert.
• Experience chairing multi-agency meetings with clients, families and carers.

Responsibilities

• Complete holistic assessments including housing factors for individuals and households.
• Work with Health colleagues to process referrals for safe, early discharge.
• Refer to universal services and liaise with partners to meet needs.
• Provide equipment and signposting to meet impairments where appropriate.
• Make recommendations on property types, adaptations and equipment.
• Progress recommendations requiring specialist input.
• Monitor referral pathways and provide data for project costs.
• Support Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) funded recommendations.
• Ensure referrals are reviewed and progressed for timely adaptations.
• Support Case Options Panels with multi-disciplinary approaches.
• Mentor Health and Community OTs involved in complex adaptations.
• Provide training to Health colleagues on DFG processes and adaptations.
• Develop services with local councils to reduce hospital stays.
• Manage cases and ensure alignment with professional registration and CPD.
