Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work across St Cyres Comprehensive School, supporting pupils with Physical and Medical needs within mainstream classrooms. You will promote inclusion and independence, assist with planning and delivery of therapy programmes, and support teachers and specialists to ensure pupils access the curriculum.

The role is 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, with pay at Level 4 SCP 14-19 plus a Special School Allowance

Qualifications

• Previous and recent experience working in primary or secondary schools.
• Experience supporting pupils with physical difficulties, complex medical needs and/or long-term health conditions.
• Experience implementing learning strategies such as therapy programmes or personalised learning activities under professional guidance.
• Experience assisting with planning, monitoring and evaluation of pupils' work.
• Experience with various IT software programmes and communication aids.
• Strong understanding of ALN, particularly physical disabilities, medical conditions, sensory needs and their impact on learning.
• Able to demonstrate effective working methods with pupils and promote inclusive classroom practice.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety and manual handling requirements.
• Knowledge of different key stage programmes.
• Working knowledge of safeguarding arrangements in school.
• Able to communicate and liaise with school staff, parents and LA staff.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Strong ability to follow medical instructions.

Responsibilities

• To provide support for Physical and Medical pupils across all schools within the Vale of Glamorgan.
• Ensuring they have access to the curriculum and acting as a practical assistant during lessons as required.
• You will also need to provide support to all teachers and specialists involved.
