mode transport planning is seeking a Senior Highways Engineer with 6–9 years of experience to lead and deliver diverse highway projects. You will work within a growing highways team, applying DMRB, MfS1/2, and local standards while coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

The role involves preparing drawings, reports, and design documents, and supporting project management, bids, and frameworks. Strong communication, initiative, and meticulous work are essential.

Qualifications

• Formal education in Civil Engineering or related highway engineering.
• Experience in development-focused highway design/engineering.
• Member of ICE or CIHT (or pursuing membership).
• Excellent communication skills and high work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and design documents.

We are seeking dependable staff at Senior Highways Engineer grade, with around 6 – 9 years’ experience. The successful candidate will be involved with delivering projects and be a key member of our fledgling highways engineering team. For the successful candidate, this means you will have a varied work stream, involved in a wide range of sectors and clients. We operate primarily in the private sector, including high-profile and prominent developers, landowners, house builders, retailers, universities, NHS health providers as well as contractors.

We Will Consider People Based On Their Experience, As a Guide, The Successful Candidate Will Have Some Or All The Following

The position

• Working knowledge of Design Manual for Road and Bridges(DMRB), MfS1&2, LTN1/20. Including experience in their general application, as well as local authority, highway design standards.
• Independent use of engineering software: AutoCAD (2D Design), Civil 3D (3D Design), AutoTrack and Microdrainage.
• An awareness of Departures from Standard for and Local Highway Authorities and National Highways.
• Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and design documents.
• Working knowledge of Section 278 & Section 38 legal agreements process.
• Review of utility diversions associated with Section 278 works through an understanding of National Joint Utility Guidelines, C2 & C3 Utility Diversions.
• A clear understanding of designers’ duties as required under Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.
• Coordinating with the transport planning team, project engineers, and engineering technicians to ensure comprehensive delivery of service.
• Exposure to Project Managementand client communication.
• Prepare client briefs and fee proposalsfor submission, as well as contributing to companywide bids and framework applications.
• Commissioning, preparation of and designers response inputs, to optioneering studies, GG104 Risk Assessment, GG142 walking, cycling and horse-riding assessment, GG119 road safety audits
• Contribute towards our business targets.

The candidate
