Job summary

RGB in Cardiff is seeking a permanent Principal Highway Engineer to lead highway design projects from concept through to construction.

You will mentor junior engineers, liaise with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams, and drive design delivery across residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes.

The role offers a salary of £50,000 to £65,000 per annum, private healthcare, 24 days leave plus bank holidays, a 7% pension, flexible working and clear career progression.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in highway design within a consultancy.
• Strong AutoCAD and Civil 3D knowledge.
• Experience with DMRB, Manual for Streets and local standards.
• Knowledge of Section 278/38 agreements and approvals.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead highway design and delivery from concept to construction.
• Prepare highway designs for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments.
• Design junctions and highway infrastructure to standards.
• Produce drawings and specs for planning and detailed design.
• Manage Section 278, Section 38, and other highway agreements.
• Liaise with authorities, clients and stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team.
• Support business development and winning new work.
