Job summary

Exeter City Council is seeking a Corporate Health & Safety Officer to lead risk management and drive a proactive health and safety culture across the organisation. You will provide expert advice, develop policies, deliver training, conduct inspections and audits, and support managers to meet duties and improve wellbeing.

This is a hands-on role requiring NEBOSH General Certificate, strong communication and organisational skills, and a collaborative approach to embed safety into everyday

Qualifications

• You’ll hold a NEBOSH General Certificate and have relevant experience applying health and safety legislation in the workplace.
• You’ll be an effective communicator who can provide clear, practical advice and build positive relationships with colleagues at all levels.
• You’ll be proactive, organised and solutions-focused, with experience of delivering training, undertaking audits and inspections, supporting investigations and helping managers meet their health and safety responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent health and safety advice, guidance and support across a wide range of Council services.
• Promote a positive health and safety culture through constructive engagement with managers, employees and stakeholders.
• Help develop, review and implement health and safety policies, standards and guidance.
• Undertake inspections, audits and investigations and support the implementation of improvements and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training through workshops, toolbox talks, face-to-face sessions and online learning.
• Monitor compliance with corporate health and safety management systems and support managers in meeting their responsibilities.
• Develop, administer and promote the Council's Health & Safety Management System (Assessnet), providing training and support to colleagues.
• Support managers with DSE assessments, PEEPs, stress risk assessments, employee screening programmes and other health and safety management activities.
• Prepare reports, communicate findings and provide recommendations to support informed decision-making.
• Contribute to corporate projects and initiatives that strengthen workplace health, safety and wellbeing.
