Job summary

Elevation Recruitment Group is supporting a leading educational organisation in appointing a Health & Safety Officer on a 12-month maternity cover. The role provides professional health, safety and risk management across the estate, reporting to the Director of Estates & Resources.

You will lead audits, develop policies, support risk assessments, manage contractor safety, and coordinate fire safety and incident investigations, promoting a positive safety culture across the organisation.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent.
• Experience in a broad health & safety role.
• Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation.
• Experience undertaking audits, inspections and risk assessments.
• Experience with accident and incident investigation.
• Knowledge of fire safety, COSHH, asbestos and legionella management.
• Experience managing contractors and reviewing RAMS.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and guidance on health, safety and risk management.
• Undertake regular health & safety audits and inspections across the estate.
• Develop, review and implement health & safety policies, procedures and guidance.
• Support managers with risk assessments and appropriate control measures.
• Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Lead on fire risk assessments, fire safety and evacuation drills.
• Maintain compliance across COSHH, asbestos, legionella, PPE and first aid.
• Manage contractor health & safety, including RAMS review and monitoring.
• Coordinate safety testing programmes including PAT testing and environmental checks.
• Deliver health & safety inductions, training and awareness sessions.

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be supporting a leading educational organisation with the appointment of a Health & Safety Officer to cover maternity leave (12 months)

About the Role

This is a broad and varied role, providing professional health, safety and risk management support across the organisation. You will work closely with managers, staff, students, contractors and senior stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with current legislation. Reporting to the Director of Estates & Resources, the Health & Safety Officer will take a proactive role in managing and monitoring health, safety and risk activities across the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Providing professional advice and guidance on health, safety and risk management
• Undertaking regular health & safety audits and inspections across the estate
• Developing, reviewing and implementing health & safety policies, procedures and guidance
• Supporting managers with risk assessments and appropriate control measures
• Investigating accidents and incidents and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented
• Managing RIDDOR reporting where required
• Leading on fire risk assessments, fire safety and evacuation drills
• Maintaining compliance across COSHH, asbestos, legionella, PPE and first aid
• Managing contractor health & safety, including reviewing RAMS and monitoring contractor performance
• Coordinating safety testing programmes including PAT testing and environmental safety checks
• Delivering health & safety inductions, training and awareness sessions
• Monitoring actions arising from internal and external audits
• Maintaining accurate health & safety records and compliance documentation
• Supporting occupational health and workplace adjustment requirements alongside HR
• Providing reports and expert advice to senior management and the Health & Safety Committee
• Promoting a positive health, safety and risk management culture across the organisation
