Job summary

Hargreaves Engineering is seeking a Safety Manager to lead SHEQ across engineering services, ensuring safe, compliant delivery of infrastructure, mechanical and electrical works. You will steer safety culture and compliance across projects and operations.

The role requires senior safety leadership, ISO experience, and a proactive, hands-on approach to guidance, audits and contractor oversight. A chartered IOSH status is preferred.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a senior health and safety leadership role within construction, engineering, infrastructure or industrial operations.
• CDM experience and strong knowledge of risk management in engineering environments.
• Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 management systems.
• Proven track record leading audits, investigations and improvement programmes.
• Experience managing contractors and high-risk activities in large projects.
• Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business.
• Ability to engage effectively from site level through to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of SHEQ strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality legislation.
• Maintain ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
• Provide technical safety leadership across engineering, maintenance and infrastructure.
• Drive continual improvement in safety performance, risk management and asset integrity.
• Support business growth while keeping safety as a core value.
• Develop and implement SHEQ improvement plans across projects.
• Provide competent advice on safety, environmental and quality matters.
• Lead management of significant operational and engineering risks.
• Support nationwide projects as required.
• Influence behaviours to foster a positive safety culture.
