Job summary

Kenton Black Limited is seeking a Senior HSE Manager to drive health, safety and wellbeing across multiple civil engineering schemes in the North of England. Reporting to the SHW Director, you will lead HSE at site level, guide operational teams, and champion regulatory compliance while delivering continuous safety improvements across projects.

The role requires NEBOSH certification, experience across construction/roads infrastructure, and a proactive, professional approach to stakeholder

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or Diploma) is essential.
  • Diploma/qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent required.
  • Experience leading HSE teams across multiple sites is essential.
  • Proven track record with ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 is essential.
  • IOSH membership or pursuing Chartered status is essential.
  • Evidence of CPD is required.
  • SEATS (Safety, Environmental Awareness Training Scheme) is desirable.
  • Mental Health First Aid training is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the operational site lead for Safety, Health & wellbeing on site.
  • Provide expert advice to operational teams to maintain safe and healthy workplaces.
  • Chair regular HSE calls and meetings with leadership teams.
  • Conduct site inspections and behavioural observations; report findings and close out actions.
  • Deliver daily HSE engagement on site: toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Support SHW strategy delivery and regulatory compliance across projects.
  • Lead investigations into accidents/ incidents and embed learning.

Job description

Are you a driven Health & Safety professional looking to join an established multi-disciplinary construction company? A reputable, specialist civil engineering contractor are looking for a Senior HSE Manager, covering schemes across the North of England.

Due to the processes on-site, you must have had experience across construction, highways or major infrastructure projects.

Reporting into the Safety, Health & Environment Director, key competencies include:
  • Acting as the operational site lead for Safety, Health & wellbeing, providing expert advice and assurance
  • Working with, and challenging operational teams to create safe and healthy working environments on all sites
  • Chairing regular HSE calls and briefings and represent the project in operational leadership and framework team meetings
  • Conducting regular site inspections and behavioural observations, reporting findings and ensuring timely close-out and solution
  • Providing daily HSE engagement on site, including toolbox talks, safety briefings, and wellbeing sessions
  • Supporting the operational site teams, ensuring consistency of delivery and capability
  • Supporting the operational delivery of the SHW strategy as directed by the SHW Director
  • Driving compliance with all SHW-related regulatory requirements and industry best practices including ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001
  • Leading accidents and incidents investigations, overseeing root cause analysis and embedding learning outcomes into future operations

The company are renowned for adding value to strategic partnerships with clients and regulatory bodies and as such you must be a consummate professional with the ability to support and influence, across internal and external stakeholders.

Key competencies include:
  • Experience as Health & safety professional within construction, civil engineering, rail and/or highways infrastructure (ESSENTIAL)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, Diploma (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety (ESSENTIAL)
  • Capability managing H&S teams across multiple sites (ESSENTIAL)
  • Proven experience with regulatory and certification processes, including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 (ESSENTIAL)
  • Membership of IOSH or working toward Chartered status (ESSENTIAL)
  • Evidence of CPD
  • SEATS (Safety, Environmental Awareness Training Scheme)
  • Mental Health First Aid
