NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Senior Health Care Support Worker at Gartnavel General Hospital. The role supports nurses, delivers patient care and carries out observations, tests and routine clinical tasks in acute and community settings.

The post requires SVQ Level 3 or equivalent, adherence to induction standards, mandatory training, and strong teamwork and communication skills. Part-time, permanent, with pro rata salary and shift pattern.

Qualifications

• SVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through relevant experience, on-the-job training and short courses.
• You will understand and comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
• You will complete and maintain all required statutory and mandatory training.
• You will understand and follow relevant policies and procedures, including escort policy, infection prevention and control, and health and safety.
• You will work within your scope of practice under the direct and indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
• You will develop knowledge of departmental equipment, ensure it is in good working order and report any concerns to a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
• You will complete the required in-house training programme.
• You will continue to develop your knowledge and skills through instruction, on-the-job learning, teaching sessions and study days.
• You will demonstrate the core skills required to undertake patient care and other delegated tasks competently.
• You will have effective written and verbal communication, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
• You will demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach to patient care.
• You will be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsabilités

• You will deliver patient care as directed by a Registered Nurse/Midwife, demonstrating care and compassion towards patients, carers and relatives.
• Your responsibilities will include carrying out patient observations and tests, such as blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis and pregnancy testing; undertaking delegated clinical care tasks, including wound observation and dressings, removal of peripheral cannulas and stoma bag changes; monitoring and reporting changes in patients’ physical or psychological needs; assisting with the safe transfer of patients; and responding to patient and family enquiries, referring concerns to the Registered Nurse/Midwife where appropriate.
• You will communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, maintain accurate patient records, protect confidentiality and follow infection prevention and control, health and safety, and other relevant procedures.
• You will also check and maintain equipment, support housekeeping and stock control, and take part in training and personal development activities to maintain and develop your skills.
