Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer in Portsmouth, primarily on site for a 12-month contract. The role involves leading design, testing, and installation documentation for shipboard hardware, with emphasis on EMC, environmental considerations, and successful FAT(E) acceptance.

The candidate will contribute to development systems, resolve design issues, and ensure robust configuration control and baselines across complex multi-project environments.

Senior Hardware Systems Engineer

Portsmouth

Mostly on site

12 months

£60.69 per hour (Inside IR35)

What you'll be doing:

• Generation of design, test and installation documentation
• Design proving, including environmental and Electro Magnetic Compatibility aspects
• Investigation and resolution of design issues
• Design and build of the electrical and hardware system to achieve successful acceptance (FAT(E))
• Support to development systems
• Successful installation and setting to work of hardware on ship
• Understanding of Configuration Control and baselines

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• * An Engineer with experience in a hardware domain
• * Knowledge and experience of equipment development using Commercially available Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware components, preferably with an understanding of blade and PC technology.
• * A can-do, enthusiastic attitude and enquiring mind with a flexible approach & openness to involvement in all aspects of the team's work

Desirable:

• * Ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment
• * Experience with COTS enclosures (e.g. units, cabinets), design, wiring schedules, power distribution etc. would be especially desirable.
• * Experience working with the Defence sector

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects. Preference will be given to candidates who are professionally registered
