We are looking for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to join an established engineering team developing advanced electronic systems used within maritime navigation and surveillance applications.
This is a hands-on electronics design position offering ownership across the full hardware development lifecycle, from translating system requirements into board-level designs through development, verification, testing and introduction into manufacture.
As Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and verification of complex electronic hardware and PCB assemblies.
Key responsibilities will include:
Design and development of high-speed digital electronic hardware
Analogue circuit design and simulation
Schematic capture and multilayer PCB design/layout
Signal integrity considerations across complex board-level designs
Translating system-level requirements into robust electronic designs
Hardware bring-up, testing, verification and troubleshooting
Producing test specifications, circuit descriptions and supporting technical documentation
Supporting FPGA-based designs and hardware/firmware integration
Interfacing with RF hardware and associated electronics where required
Developing scripts and tools to configure, test and verify hardware
Supporting existing electronic assemblies through investigation and fault finding
Working closely with manufacturing during the introduction of new hardware and test solutions
Identifying technical risks and contributing to design reviews
Supporting component selection, lifecycle management and obsolescence activities
Taking ownership of technical tasks throughout the complete product development lifecycle
We are interested in speaking with experienced Electronics or Hardware Engineers with a strong background in board-level electronic design.
Ideally, you will have experience across several of the following areas:
High-speed digital electronics
Multilayer PCB design and layout
Schematic capture and PCB CAD tools such as Altium Designer or OrCAD
Signal integrity
Analogue electronics and circuit simulation
FPGA-based hardware, ideally with exposure to VHDL
Embedded C and hardware/firmware integration
RF electronics or interfacing with RF systems
MATLAB
Automated hardware testing or scripting
Hardware verification, validation and board bring-up
Component lifecycle and obsolescence management
Supporting electronics through development and into manufacture
Experience within defence, aerospace, radar, communications, marine electronics, instrumentation or another complex electronic product environment would be particularly relevant.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of designs, solving complex technical problems and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.
A degree, HND/HNC or equivalent experience within Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline would be preferred.
This is an opportunity to join an established technology business developing sophisticated electronic systems for demanding real-world applications.
You'll work across the full engineering lifecycle and have the opportunity to contribute directly to the development, verification and ongoing improvement of complex hardware products.
Occasional UK travel may be required.
