Job summary

Outsource UK Limited, on behalf of BAE Systems, is seeking a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer in Portsmouth to support the design, development, integration and installation of complex hardware systems aboard ships.

The role is onsite, 37 hours per week, with PAYE or Umbrella rates inside IR35; you will generate design and installation documentation, address EMC considerations, resolve issues, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet FAT and project targets.

Qualifications

• Engineering experience in hardware engineering.
• Experience with Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware development.
• Understanding of blade server and PC technology is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Generate design, test and installation documentation.
• Support design proving, including EMC considerations.
• Investigate and resolve hardware and design issues.
• Design and build electrical/hardware systems for FAT readiness.
• Support development systems and related activities.
• Assist installation and commissioning of hardware aboard ships.
• Work within configuration control baselines.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to meet project requirements.

Senior Hardware Systems Engineer – BAE Systems
Location: Broadoak, Portsmouth
Contract Length: TBC
Onsite Full time 37 hours per week
Rate: £45.00 PAYE or £60.69 Umbrella inside IR35

Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hardware engineer to work on complex engineering programmes within a highly technical environment, supporting the design, development, integration and installation of hardware systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Generating design, test and installation documentation
• Supporting design proving, including environmental and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) considerations
• Investigating and resolving hardware and design issues
• Designing and building electrical and hardware systems to achieve successful Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
• Supporting development systems and associated engineering activities
• Supporting the successful installation and setting to work of hardware onboard ship
• Working within configuration control and established engineering baselines
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver project requirements

Key Skills

• Engineering experience within a hardware engineering domain
• Knowledge and practical experience of equipment development using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware
• Understanding of blade server and PC technology would be advantageous
• A proactive, enthusiastic and inquisitive approach
• Flexible attitude and willingness to contribute across different aspects of the engineering team's work
