Job summary

Curtiss-Wright Corporation is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer in Letchworth, UK to lead all aspects of electronic design from concept to data pack completion.

You will collaborate with software, mechanical, manufacturing and sales teams to ensure cost-effective, reliable products and to support production and obsolescence needs. The role involves travel and a strong emphasis on EMc and rugged VPX systems.

Qualifications

• Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate technical subject.
• Experience in embedded systems, VPX PC cards, and integration.
• Familiar with high-end Intel Xeons & NXP Power-PC VPX SBCs.
• Familiar with schematic design using ORCAD/Altium.
• Familiar with PCIe interface operation and design.
• Knowledge of EMC including ruggedized video monitors and MIL specs.
• Ability to perform environmental testing to RTCA/DO-160/MIL-810/MIL-461.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a design team to develop Curtiss-Wright products.
• Design and develop ruggedised VPX-based computer systems or video products.
• Maintain and support existing product lines including obsolescence management.
• Oversee qualification tests (temperature, vibration, EMC) in-house and at test houses.
• Contribute to design reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Lead new technology evaluations for product designs.
• Assist production engineering in manufacturing introduction.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Letchworth UK Team!

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing all aspects of the electronic design and development process, from initial concept through to the completion of sealed data packs. You will also liaise with software engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing and sales to ensure product is fit for purpose, cost effective and reliable.

Location: Letchworth office, UK.

• Participate individually and as part of an integrated project team in the design of the Company’s products.


• Design and develop ruggedised computer system (VPX based) or video products.


• Maintain the existing product line including obsolescence management, periodic circuit uplift and production support.


• Take responsibility for ensuring allocated qualification tests (Temperature, vibration, EMC to name just a few) are completed successfully, both in-house and at external test houses.


• To attend and actively contribute to the effective operation of applicable design reviews.


• To support and guide junior colleagues in technical matters.


• To undertake new technology evaluation and introduction in product designs


• To accept technical responsibility for allocated design tasks


• To assist Production Engineering in the introduction of equipment into manufacture in a cost effective and timely manner


• May represent the Hardware function internally and externally.


• Infrequent UK and international travel as required.

What You Bring:

• Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate technical subject.


• Relevant experience in embedded systems (Specifically at Letchworth, integration of VPX PC cards), digital and analogue design.


• Familiar with high end Intel Xeons & NXP Power-PC VPX single board computers


• Familiar with Schematic design using ORCAD/Altium or similar package.


• Familiar with PCIe interface operation and design.


• Familiar with DC-DC PSU design.


• Familiar with Design for EMC including MIL Spec. Ruggedized Video Monitors.


• Flexible and able to complete Environmental Testing to standards such as RTCA/DO-160/MIL810/MIL461, including detailed test specification and report writing.


• Ability to fault find down to a board level.


• Experience working closely with or in production is advantageous.


• Experience within an aerospace environment is advantageous.
