Job Description:
Senior Hardware Design Engineer
You will be joining a small dynamic team continually designing and developing world-beating products. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will be expected to join our RF and Hardware group and be involved in the full product lifecycle, including requirements, design, testing, release, and support of new digital, analogue, and RF designs.
This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced but rewarding environment on RF Technologies across a number of exciting markets including defense and aerospace.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities, your core responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Design of electronic circuits, subsystems, and systems of varying complexity crossing analog, digital, and RF (desirable) domains.
- Schematic capture.
- Layout capture.
- Footprint/symbol creation.
- Maintenance and update of Altium Library and templates.
- Scoping of new systems and technologies for feasibility and product design.
- Managing external design houses and resources as required.
2. Technical Support and Testing
- Production and Manufacturing assistance as required.
- Troubleshooting hardware and system issues from all areas of the business.
- Self-testing and troubleshooting of your own design and development work.
- Testing, troubleshooting, and updating existing designs produced by other engineers.
- Complete Design Reviews.
- Verification of designs against requirement specifications.
- Mentoring lower-grade engineers as needed.
3. Documentation and Communication
- Providing task time estimates and risk considerations to project managers.
- Weekly standup meetings to communicate achievements and priorities.
- Organizing and leading technical projects, including design reviews.
- Participating in design reviews and project meetings led by others.
- Contributing to department processes and procedures.
- Creating design packs and documentation.
- Creating user information and manuals when required.
- Assisting project leads with project plans.
- Collaborating with the engineering team and other disciplines to achieve targets.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We are seeking someone with:
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an equivalent role.
- Skills and experience in digital circuit design, analogue circuit design, layout, EMC, CE marking, and design for IPC (not all required but beneficial).
- Practical experience with PCB bring-up and testing.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, a good team player, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, produce results, and have good analytical skills.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum of 7 years of experience.
- Experience with Altium Designer.
- Additional beneficial skills include embedded firmware, designing for military or airborne applications, MIL-STD and DO-160 testing, JTAG boundary scan, and experience with test equipment.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Master's degree is desirable.
Security
- British citizen or ability to obtain security clearance.
- Travel is unlikely.
- Onsite working, including work from home policy.
