Job summary

Thomson Reuters seeks an experienced Assistant General Counsel - Group Data Protection Officer to lead its global privacy program. Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, you will guide a distributed team and ensure robust data protection and cybersecurity compliance across worldwide operations.

This senior role shapes strategy for fiduciary-grade AI governance, privacy-by-design across products, and regulatory engagement at the highest level, enabling business growth with trusted privacy

Qualifications

• Extensive experience (typically 12+ years) in data protection/privacy law or privacy leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in UK GDPR and EU GDPR; independence requirements of the DPO function.
• Demonstrated experience managing regulatory relationships and/or investigations with data protection authorities.
• Proven Director-level leadership experience building and managing global, multi-region privacy teams.
• Experience overseeing diverse privacy-related functions within a unified governance framework.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the designated Data Protection Officer under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, including independence and reporting to the Board.
• Provide oversight of the global Privacy Operations Lead function and senior privacy counsel roles.
• Manage regulatory relationships and oversee incident governance and breach response strategies.
• Report to the Chief Privacy Officer and Board on privacy risk, regulatory developments, and program maturity.
• Monitor global privacy regulatory developments and translate into updated policy and controls.
