Job summary

Thomson Reuters seeks an experienced Assistant General Counsel - Group Data Protection Officer to lead our global privacy strategy. Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, you will head a distributed team of privacy lawyers and drive data protection and cybersecurity compliance across worldwide operations.

The role combines law, technology, and regulatory complexity to shape strategy, develop a high-performing team, and provide practical legal guidance at scale in an AI-enabled environment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of data protection/privacy law experience.
• Direct experience as a DPO or senior privacy leader at director level or above.
• Deep expertise in UK GDPR and EU GDPR and independence requirements.
• Proven track record managing regulatory relationships and investigations.
• Experience leading global, multi-regional privacy teams and functions.
• Law degree and/or relevant professional qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the global privacy program and a geographically distributed team of privacy lawyers.
• Serve as the designated DPO under UK GDPR and EU GDPR with independent reporting.
• Advise on DPIAs and regulatory matters; liaise with supervisory authorities.
• Provide executive reporting to Board and Audit committees on privacy risk.
• Develop governance, policies, and technical controls across the organization.
• Oversee privacy operations, incident response, and data mapping initiatives.
