Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant in Birmingham seeks a Senior Healthcare Technical Officer to join our SCI department for the collection, processing and cryopreservation of peripheral stem cells and bone marrow for patients undergoing haemopoietic stem cell transplantation.

The role involves working in HTA and MHRA licensed laboratories, maintaining records, stock control, preparing reagents, and supervising staff, with flexibility and occasional after-hours work.

Qualifications

• Level 4 qualification e.g. BTEC or HNC in a relevant science subject, or NHSBT Foundation Degree or equivalent.
• Evidence of furthering personal development.

Responsibilities

• Perform scientific and technical tasks for collection and cryopreservation of stem cells.
• Clean regulated laboratories to high specification.
• Maintain stocks and reagents in line with MHRA regulations.
• Provide support and training to new and less experienced staff.
• Adhere to working hours with occasional evenings and weekends.
