Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is a pivotal NHS group operating across England, handling millions of blood and tissue products annually. The Senior Healthcare Technical Officer role is based in Birmingham within the Stem Cell and Immunotherapies and Advanced Therapeutics Unit, supporting GMP labs and the transition of cellular therapies to the clinic.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising others in a scientific/clinical setting.
• Ability to use computers and basic IT programs in daily tasks.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development or training.

Responsibilities

• Perform scientific and technical activities related to collection and cryopreservation of stem cells.
• Clean laboratories to high specifications, wearing appropriate protective garments.
• Maintain stocks and reagents in line with MHRA regulations.
• Work standard hours with some evenings, weekends and bank holidays with notice.
• Manually handle equipment weighing up to 13 kg with or without aids.
• Support and train new and less experienced staff.
