Job summary

Fugro is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Laboratory) to join the wallingford lab. You will perform geotechnical soil and rock tests, review results, and ensure data integrity per ISO/IEC 17025, while mentoring colleagues and contributing to method development.

You will work with laboratory staff, engineers and project teams to maintain high standards and strengthen testing capabilities on client projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geotechnical or civil engineering, geology, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical laboratory testing, soil/rock behaviour, data interpretation and validation of technical results.
• Understanding of laboratory quality assurance, data integrity and procedures per standards.
• Experience managing a small team and mentoring colleagues.
• Clear communication, organisation of priorities and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Safety-conscious with strong numeracy and attention to detail.
• Desirable: experience in geotechnical labs, familiarity with LIMS, master’s degree or graduate membership of ICE or Geological Society.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical soil and rock laboratory tests per approved procedures and standards.
• Review and validate results, calculations and observations for anomalies.
• Apply ISO/IEC 17025 and data-integrity principles to protect lab data quality.
• Provide technical support during testing, investigations and method development.
• Contribute to audits, accreditation activities and lessons learned.
• Coach and train colleagues to build technical capability.
• Promote a safety-first culture through risk assessments and safety briefings.
