Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a Local Government delivery team based in central Gloucester. The role focuses on delivering geotechnical, highways, bridges and infrastructure schemes with practical assessment, design and risk management.

You will be part of an established team supported by a UK network of geotechnical specialists, with opportunities for mentoring and career development within a flexible, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience).
• Chartered Engineer or working at a level equivalent, via a relevant professional institution.
• Experience delivering Designer duties under CDM Regulations.
• Proven ability to work with clients to understand needs and deliver pragmatic, value-driven solutions.
• Confident communicator, able to influence and keep stakeholders informed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute across all stages of geotechnical schemes: early advice, investigation planning, design, construction support and asset management.
• Act as technical lead on a range of geotechnical projects.
• Develop and procure ground investigations.
• Write and check technical deliverables (e.g., monitoring memos, desk studies, ground investigation reports).
• Undertake and review design/assessment calculations (e.g., piling, soil nailing, shallow foundations, earthworks).
• Review/check CDM documentation and support compliance.
• Support day-to-day project management and delivery.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers through coaching and technical training.
