Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join the Local Government delivery team in Gloucester. You will lead geotechnical schemes, provide technical leadership, and manage ground investigations for a county council programme across highways and infrastructure.

The role requires chartered status, CDM experience, and ability to build client relationships while mentoring junior engineers. Hybrid working and flexible options support work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer status or working at that level via a professional institution
• Experience delivering Designer duties under CDM Regulations
• Proven ability to work with clients to understand needs and deliver pragmatic, value-driven solutions
• Confident communicator, able to influence and keep stakeholders informed

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute across all stages of geotechnical schemes: early advice, investigation planning, design, construction support and asset management
• Act as technical lead on a range of geotechnical projects
• Develop and procure ground investigations
• Write and check technical deliverables (e.g., monitoring memos, desk studies, ground investigation reports)
• Undertake and review design/assessment calculations (e.g., piling, soil nailing, shallow foundations, earthworks)
• Review/check CDM documentation and support compliance
• Support day-to-day project management and delivery
• Build and maintain strong client relationships
• Mentor and develop junior engineers through coaching and technical training
