Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Birmingham is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and lead geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects. The role offers variety across sites and reports, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as the team grows.

You will manage ground investigations from planning to completion, produce technical reports, assess geotechnical design, and mentor junior staff while coordinating projects and budgets.

Qualifications

• This role requires a degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related subject.
• Several years' experience within a geotechnical consultancy.
• Strong experience across geotechnical site investigation and reporting.
• Some exposure to geoenvironmental work and contaminated land.
• Good technical report writing skills.
• Experience working directly with clients and project teams.
• The ability to manage your own workload and support more junior staff.
• Ideally Chartered or working towards Chartership.

Responsibilities

• Managing and delivering ground investigations from planning through to completion.
• Geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigations.
• Ground and soil logging, sampling and interpretation of site data.
• Producing factual and interpretive reports.
• Geotechnical assessments and design.
• Slope stability, foundations, earthworks and ground improvement.
• Supporting Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental assessments.
• Working with clients, contractors and other consultants.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers.
• Managing projects, programmes and budgets where required.
