Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers in Birmingham is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The role covers geotechnical and geoenvironmental work across varied projects, offering opportunities to develop technical and project management skills.

You will manage ground investigations from planning to completion, conduct site investigations, logging, sampling, and interpretation, produce reports, perform geotechnical assessments, and support junior staff while managing budgets.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Several years of experience in geotechnical consultancy.
• Strong experience in geotechnical site investigation and reporting.
• Some exposure to geoenvironmental work and contaminated land.
• Good technical report writing skills and client-facing experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver ground investigations from planning through to completion.
• Conduct geotechnical site investigations, logging, sampling and interpretation of site data.
• Produce factual and interpretive reports and geotechnical assessments.
• Address slope stability, foundations, earthworks and ground improvement.
• Support Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental assessments.
• Work with clients, contractors and other consultants.
• Mentor junior engineers and manage project teams and budgets as required.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer Birmingham £45,000 - £55,000 A well-established consultancy is looking to add a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to its Birmingham team. This is a varied role covering both geotechnical and geoenvironmental work, giving you the opportunity to work across a range of projects and develop your technical and project management experience.

You’ll be involved in:

• Managing and delivering ground investigations from planning through to completion
• Geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigations
• Ground and soil logging, sampling and interpretation of site data
• Producing factual and interpretive reports
• Geotechnical assessments and design
• Slope stability, foundations, earthworks and ground improvement
• Supporting Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental assessments
• Working with clients, contractors and other consultants
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers
• Managing projects, programmes and budgets where required

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related subject
• Several years’ experience within a geotechnical consultancy
• Strong experience across geotechnical site investigation and reporting
• Some exposure to geoenvironmental work and contaminated land
• Good technical report writing skills
• Experience working directly with clients and project teams
• The ability to manage your own workload and support more junior staff
• Ideally, Chartered or working towards Chartership
