Job summary

Align Property Services in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead and deliver advanced ground engineering for high-profile projects. You will own complex designs, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to shape sustainable geotechnical solutions for highway infrastructure.

The role requires a Chartered/eligible geologist/engineer with substantial post-graduate experience and strong report writing, client-facing skills,

Qualifications

  • BSc in Geology or Earth Sciences; MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering required.
  • Chartered Geologist (CGeol) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent accreditation.
  • Extensive post-graduate experience in engineering geology/geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, procurement, and delivery of complex ground investigation programmes.
  • Oversee site investigations, logging, and monitoring activities.
  • Develop and interpret ground models from geological, geotechnical, and geophysical data.
  • Lead landslide investigations and provide mitigation solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Manage budgets, programmes, quality standards, and commercial performance.
  • Provide mentoring and technical leadership to junior team members.
  • Build client relationships and support business development.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.

Job description

Salary : £48000 to £52000 per annum, experience dependant.

Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire

Contract : Permanent, full-time, Monday – Friday

Due to recent successful awards of several large, complex landslide investigations and a growing portfolio of schemes across the North of England, we are now looking for an experiencedSenior Geotechnical Engineer to lead and deliver cutting-edge ground engineering solutions across a range of high-profile infrastructure and development projects at Align Property Services.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of complex geotechnical designs, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. You’ll be at the forefront of shaping sustainable, resilient geotechnical designs for the highway infrastructure, for land slip sites in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. You will also oversee and technically supervise the construction of your designs.

What You’ll be Doing
  • Lead the planning, design, procurement, and delivery of complex ground investigation programmes.
  • Oversee site investigations, geological and geotechnical logging, and monitoring activities.
  • Develop and interpret ground models using geological, geotechnical, and geophysical data.
  • Carry out advanced geotechnical assessments, including foundations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, and geohazards.
  • Lead landslide investigations and provide practical mitigation and remediation solutions.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Manage project budgets, programmes, quality standards, and commercial performance.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to junior team members.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
What We’re Looking For
  • BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline, with an MSc in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Chartered Geologist (CGeol), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Substantial post-graduate experience in engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Extensive experience planning, supervising, interpreting, and reporting on ground investigations.
  • Strong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, slope stability, and geohazard assessment.
  • Proven experience leading landslide investigations and delivering practical mitigation solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of UK industry standards, Eurocodes, and geotechnical best practice.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as required.
