Job summary

Align Property Services is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Otley to deliver ground engineering solutions for high-profile projects across the North of England. The role offers hands-on site investigations, logging, and analysis with regular travel to Northallerton, one day a week.

The successful candidate will have a BSc in Geology or related field and an MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering, with experience in site investigations and reporting.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
  • MSc in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience planning, supervising, or undertaking ground investigations.
  • Strong soil and rock logging skills and understanding of industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret site investigation data and produce clear technical reports.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to working with clients and teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and deliver ground investigation projects across various sites.
  • Log soil and rock samples per industry standards.
  • Interpret geological and geotechnical data to support project delivery.
  • Prepare high-quality ground investigation reports.

Salary : £40000 to £47000 per annum, experience dependant.

Location: Otley, West Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, full-time, Monday – Friday

Due to recent successful awards of several large, complex landslide investigations and a growing portfolio of schemes across the North of England, we are now looking for aGeotechnical Engineer to deliver cutting-edge ground engineering solutions across a range of high-profile infrastructure and development projects at Align Property Services.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an early‑career professional to develop both technical expertise and project management skills while working alongside experienced specialists. You'll play an active role in delivering site investigations, geotechnical assessments, slope stability analyses, and engineering geology projects, helping to shape infrastructure, development, and environmental solutions that make a real impact. This role can be based in Otley, with regular attendance in Northallerton, one day a week.

What You’ll be Doing
  • Plan, supervise, and deliver ground investigation projects across a range of sites.

  • Support geotechnical assessments and design activities.

  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical proposals and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
What We’re Looking For
  • BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline, with an MSc in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience planning, supervising, or undertaking ground investigations.
  • Strong soil and rock logging skills, with a good understanding of industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret site investigation data and produce clear, accurate technical reports.
  • Good technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working with clients, contractors, and project teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
