Job Title: Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer
Location: Manchester or Birmingham
Salary: Up to £55k (+ Car Allowance)
A leading UK contractor is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join its expanding design team. This position will take technical ownership of geotechnical design activities across a range of temporary and permanent works. The role will also involve design checking, value engineering, risk assessment, and mentoring of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the production of geotechnical design deliverables including calculations,
specifications, and reports (GDRs, design notes).
• Oversee ground investigation specifications and interpretation.
• Provide technical input during tender stages, including value engineering and feasibility assessments.
• Review, check and integrate subcontractor and supplier design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Prepare geotechnical design risk assessments in line with CDM regulations.
• Identify potential hazards and implement risk reduction measures for construction works, considering underground/overhead services, earthworks, and confined spaces.
• Offer buildability and alternative design solutions to optimise project delivery.
• Mentor and technically support junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
Requirements:
• Proven experience in geotechnical engineering design within infrastructure or
construction sectors.
• Proficient in geotechnical analysis and modelling tools (e.g., WALLAP, Slope/W, Settle3D, OpenGround).
• Strong understanding of Eurocode 7, UK annexes, and relevant design standards.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and health & safety in design.
• Ability to lead on geotechnical aspects of complex multi-disciplinary projects.
