Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join its Stroud team. You will lead foundations and earthworks design, review ground data, and mentor junior engineers on a range of high-profile projects across residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.

The role requires Chartered status or progress toward Chartership, strong soil mechanics knowledge, and experience with geotechnical software.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered status (or working towards Chartership) with a relevant professional body.
• Extensive experience in geotechnical design consultancy.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design and earthworks engineering.
• Experience using geotechnical design software and numerical modelling packages.
• Proven ability to manage projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and experience liaising directly with clients.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes and earthworks solutions.
• Undertake complex geotechnical analysis and design calculations.
• Review and interpret ground investigation data and geotechnical reports.
• Prepare and review technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
• Manage projects from initial feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
• Attend client meetings and develop strong professional relationships.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
• Undertake site visits and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Ensure compliance with relevant design standards, legislation and industry best practice.
• Support business development activities, including tender preparation and project proposals
