Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Staff Gear Train Engineer to develop gearboxes and drivetrains for next‑gen humanoid robots. You’ll navigate concept, analysis, and manufacturing phases, partnering with teams to balance performance, durability, and cost.

Responsibilities include design of gear systems, optimization with CAD tools, DFx collaboration, and metrology-driven quality improvements, supporting production across multiple robot platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years in gear or drivetrain design and production (or 6+ years with advanced degree).
• Willingness to travel up to 10%.
• Portfolio of recent work via web link or PDF/PPT.
• Eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not provided.

Responsibilities

• Gear System Design across robot platforms, considering kinematics, loads, efficiency, packaging and cost.
• Analyze & optimize drivetrain architectures from concept to detailed design using CAD and gear tools.
• Support Design for Manufacturing with internal/external teams for mass production.
• Interpret gear inspection data and contribute to quality standards.
• Collaborate and share knowledge across the team in a fast-evolving humanoid robotics context.
