Job summary

MDA Space is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to join our UK team, delivering satellite telecom payloads across multiple missions. You will translate subsystem requirements into FPGA designs, verify high-reliability solutions, and develop IP blocks for advanced SoCs using Microchip FPGAs for space applications.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in FPGA roles within space or high-reliability sectors, strong VHDL/SystemVerilog skills, and experience with Vivado/ModelSim/Libero.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in FPGA engineering in Space or high-reliability sectors.
• Strong FPGA technology understanding for Space applications.
• Proficiency with VHDL and SystemVerilog.
• Experience with Vivado, ModelSim, Libero design tools.
• Knowledge of digital communications and DSP concepts.
• Proven track record leading complex FPGA projects.
• Desirable: high reliability design/analysis, space payloads knowledge.
• Familiarity with LEO/GEO payloads and signal integrity analysis.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to develop satellite telecom payloads for various orbits.
• Flow down subsystem requirements to FPGA implementations.
• Perform FPGA verification for high-reliability space systems.
• Design and implement complex FPGA architectures with Microchip FPGAs for space.
• Develop IP blocks for AMD SoCs.

MDA’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication technology. As our presence grows overseas, so does our need for new ambitious team players to help us advance our place in the Universe and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers developing satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits and missions
• Flow down of sub system requirements to the FPGAs
• FPGA Verification for high reliability / space systems
• Architecture, design and implementation of complex designs with Microchip FPGAs for Space applications
• Development of IP blocks for AMD SoCs

Required Skills And Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in an FPGA engineering role, in the Space or an equivalent High Reliability sector
• Good understanding of FPGA technology for Space
• Experience with VHDL and System Verliog
• Experience FPGA design tools including Vivado, Modelsim and Libero
• Understanding of digital communications and DSP
• Leading complex FPGA projects
• Specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
• High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc)
• Knowledge of LEO/GEO communications payloads
• Signal integrity analysis
